If you’re doing Christmas in Telluride, you’re not aiming for “nice.” You’re aiming for storybook. Think snow-glow evenings, candlelight services, a torchlit mountainside (when weather cooperates), and dinners that politely insist you loosen your belt by dessert.
Below is a curated, easy-to-follow guide to celebrating Christmas in Telluride—based on official event listings from Visit Telluride / Telluride Tourism Board.
And yes—this is exactly why Telluride Real Estate stays on everyone’s vision board. When the holidays feel like this, “maybe we should buy here” becomes a very reasonable sentence. (I’m Anne-Britt Ostlund with Mountain Rose Realty—I hear it all the time.)
For a classic, heartfelt start to the evening, Alpine Chapel hosts Christmas Eve services at the Michael D. Palm Theatre from 5:00–6:30 PM on December 24, 2025—and it’s free and open to the public.
Why it’s special: It’s welcoming, easy to attend, and feels like the kind of tradition you’ll want to repeat every year.
If you want the full menu of meaningful (and very Telluride) service options, Christ Presbyterian Church offers multiple Christmas Eve gatherings on December 24, 2025:
5:00–5:30 PM outdoor family service on the steps of the Telluride Elementary School (carols, readings, candles—dress warmly)
6:30–7:15 PM traditional service in the church (lessons, carols, candles)
10:00–10:30 PM contemplative service (readings, silence, candles, and “Silent Night”)
Local tip: The outdoor family service is peak Telluride—short, sweet, and memorable.
This is the headline experience: instructors from the Telluride Ski & Snowboard School ski down the mountain with torches, lighting up the slope as they descend from the top of the Gondola toward town. The listing shows December 24, 2025 at 6:30 PM—and also notes the 2025 event was canceled due to weather.
What to do with that info: Plan for it, but keep your expectations flexible and check day-of updates. Telluride does many things perfectly—controlling weather is not one of them.
Prefer your Christmas Eve with a little more “prix fixe” and a little less “figuring out what’s for dinner”? The National offers a 3-course prix fixe Christmas Eve dinner on December 24, 2025 from 4:30–9:30 PM. Pricing is $175 per person, with a 3-course kids menu for $50 (under 10), and they note they’ll do their best to accommodate allergies.
If you want Christmas Day to feel like a warm, alpine exhale, the Christmas Day Buffet at The View at Mountain Lodge runs 2:00–7:00 PM on December 25, 2025, complete with live music from Travis & Danny and a buffet lineup that includes a prime rib carving station, honey-glazed ham, king salmon, seasonal sides, and a full dessert table. Visit Telluride
Pricing: $95 adults / $40 children under 12. Reservations are noted via OpenTable or by calling the venue. Visit Telluride
Why this one works: It’s festive, scenic, and you don’t have to do dishes. Truly the meaning of the season.
