The Telluride Bike Park, nestled within the majestic San Juan Mountains, offers a unique experience for outdoor adventurers. Open on weekends only throughout September, this lift-served bike park gives riders the opportunity to explore some of Colorado’s most exhilarating trails before the park closes for the season on September 29. Whether you're a seasoned mountain biker or a beginner eager to explore the great outdoors, this park has something for everyone.
The Telluride Bike Park offers a variety of trail types, ensuring that riders of all skill levels have a memorable experience. There are three categories of trails: freeride, technical, and cross-country. Freeride trails, which are lift-served, are designed for downhill riding, offering a smooth ride with features such as jumps, berms, and rollers. Technical trails, on the other hand, are more rugged, taking advantage of natural terrain like roots and rocks. The cross-country trails are multi-directional and multi-use, making them ideal for riders who want to explore the mountain at their own pace.
If you're new to the park, the Gold Bug Loop and Tommyknocker trails are great starting points. Gold Bug Loop is a quick loop near the base, perfect for warming up. Meanwhile, Tommyknocker offers a wide, mellow pitch that allows for skill-building before heading to more challenging terrain.
Safety is paramount at Telluride Bike Park. All riders are required to wear helmets, and it is highly recommended to use full-face helmets, eye protection, body armor, and gloves. Modern full-suspension bikes with disc brakes are the preferred choice due to the park's gravity-fed nature. Uphill riding is prohibited within the bike park, so plan your routes accordingly.
Even if you're confident in your biking abilities, consider hiring a guide or participating in one of the park's clinics. Similar to skiing or snowboarding, downhill biking requires specific skills that can enhance your overall experience. Professional guides can tailor your experience to match your skill level, ensuring you get the most out of your time at the park.
