Telluride Air & Lodging Update: July 23–29

3 min read

Telluride’s summer travel season continues to hold relatively steady, although current lodging and airline data reveal a more nuanced picture beneath the surface.

Destination occupancy is pacing close to last year, while flight demand has fluctuated amid regional wildfire concerns, calendar shifts, and changing travel patterns. At the same time, stronger fall lodging numbers suggest that interest in Telluride remains healthy beyond the traditional peak of summer.

Here is the latest look at lodging occupancy, airline bookings, and what the numbers may signal for the Telluride and Mountain Village markets.

LODGING UPDATE

Destination occupancy is pacing flat year over year over the next two weeks, with current average occupancy at 57%.

Looking at the broader summer season, total occupancy is pacing 2% behind last year at 39%, while paid occupancy remains flat. July has lost some momentum over the past few weeks and is now pacing 1% behind 2025. August is currently tracking behind 12% behind last year, while September and October are both pacing 7% ahead.

It is important to note that YOY comparisons for August and September are influenced by the calendar shift, as the Telluride Film Festival and Labor Day weekend fall entirely in September this year.

AIR UPDATE

Bookings have been up and down by week, where we have seen some dampening effect from the regional fires. Overall summer is flat YOY, with June finishing even to last year, and July losing a bit of traction now at -10% YOY. August is down -8% and September up 3% with Labor Day all in the latter month. Winter planning is underway but with work still to do. Core flights will remain the same, minus a break for Breeze – Orange County service, and with likely capacity adjustments on several routes. Let’s finish the summer strong with seasonal LAX, Houston, and Chicago all flying through Blues & Brews along with core routes.

What the Numbers Mean for Telluride

The latest air and lodging numbers point to a summer season that is broadly stable but somewhat uneven.

Near-term occupancy remains flat, while July and August have softened modestly. September and October, however, are showing encouraging strength, supported by major events, calendar timing, and growing interest in shoulder-season travel.

For property owners, these trends offer insight into visitor volume, rental demand, and the broader rhythm of the destination. For buyers exploring telluride homes for sale, travel accessibility and year-round destination demand are also important pieces of the ownership equation.

Telluride is not simply a winter ski market or a short summer destination. Its expanding festival calendar, evolving flight network, outdoor recreation, cultural events, and increasingly active fall season continue to support its appeal as a place to visit, invest, and own a home.
