Telluride Peak Sheet: Film Festival & Things to Do September 3–9, 2026
Telluride Peak Sheet: September 3–9, 2026
WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TELLURIDE THIS WEEK
Lights, camera, action. 🎬 Telluride is about to become Hollywood at 8,750 feet.
The Telluride Film Festival returns September 4–7, 2026, bringing filmmakers, actors, cinephiles and a little extra buzz to our normally tiny mountain town. One of the things we love most about Film Festival weekend is that Telluride remains Telluride—even when some very recognizable faces are strolling Colorado Avenue between screenings.
And because the Festival famously keeps its lineup under wraps until just before opening day, there’s always a little guessing game happening around town: Who will be here this year, and which films will everyone be talking about by Monday?
Of course, the Telluride Film Festival may be taking over theaters throughout Telluride and Mountain Village, but it is far from the only thing happening this week.
Explore Telluride Beyond the Movies
If you’d like a little history with your mountain scenery, join the Telluride Historical Museum for one of its popular Historic Walking Tours. Tours are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays and are one of our favorite ways to discover the characters, architecture and stories behind this former mining town.
Prefer feathers to films? Birding With Katie is happening Thursday and Friday at Patagonia.
Thursday also brings a solid dose of nostalgia with Millennial Trivia with TMVOA at Telluride Distilling Company. If your brain still contains useful information about flip phones, AIM away messages and questionable early-2000s fashion choices, apparently this is finally your moment.
On Friday, catch the last Mind Blown of the summer at The Peaks Resort & Spa.
Farmers Markets, Mountain Bikes & the Final Market on the Plaza
Friday means another chance to wander the Telluride Farmers’ Market on Oak Street. Local produce, flowers, prepared foods and handmade goods make this one of those wonderfully simple Telluride traditions worth working into your day—even during one of the busiest weekends of the year.
If you’d rather earn your après, there’s a Mountain Biking Meet-Up Tuesday at San Sophia.
And summer is officially giving us the warning shot: there is only ONE Market on the Plaza left for the season. Head to Heritage Plaza in Mountain Village on Wednesday, September 9, to support the local and regional vendors one more time before the market wraps for summer. The official market runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Live Music Around Telluride
No bass-heavy festival this week—but Telluride certainly isn’t going quiet.
Catch the Gold Kings Thursday at the Sheridan Historic Bar, or head to Alloy Kitchen for live music Thursday through Sunday.
And yes, Sunday Rehab should deliver at least a little bass for anyone missing it.
Then on Wednesday, the Mama Said String Band takes the stage at The Alibi.
Telluride Art Walk + Local Artists at Ah Haa
Thursday evening is also the monthly Telluride Art Walk, with participating galleries throughout Telluride and Mountain Village opening their doors from 5–7 p.m. for exhibits, artist receptions and a self-guided evening around town.
There are only two Art Walks remaining this season, making this a particularly good one to catch.
The Ah Haa School for the Arts is joining the fun with its Rooftop Pop-Up Local Artist Market from 4–7 p.m. Shop work from local artists, enjoy the rooftop and take in one of the best little happy-hour views in town.
September in Telluride: One of the Best Times to Be Here
Film Festival week is one of those quintessential Telluride moments: world-class culture happening in a historic mountain town where you can watch a major premiere, hike above treeline, browse a farmers market and end the evening listening to live music—all within a few miles.
It is also a wonderful reminder of why people fall in love with living here.
