The town is Telluride. For me, its appeal reaches well beyond a beautiful photograph. After more than two decades in the San Juan Mountains, the changing seasons and the people who choose to make a life here still give me reasons to stop and look around.

Spring can bring lilacs along the trail as snow pulls back from the valley floor. Summer brings long days for hiking, biking, concerts, farmers markets and, when conditions and access allow, fishing at an alpine lake.
Fall turns the aspens gold across the San Juans. Winter brings skiing, snow and the familiar rhythm of gondola rides. Some of my favorite moments happen throughout the year: sunsets that turn the range red, pink and gold and still make me pause.
Seasonal weather and operating schedules affect trails, ski terrain, markets and the gondola. When you plan a visit or choose a home around an activity, check the conditions and services for the dates that matter to you.
What makes Telluride special to me is the way people participate in town life. I see people support local businesses and nonprofits, coach kids, volunteer, gather downtown and meet on the trails. For all its international reputation as a resort destination, it can feel like a close community. That is a personal perspective, and everyone builds their own experience here.
