Crystal Festival Telluride 2026: Rocks, Minerals, Gems & Family Fun

4 min read

Telluride is surrounded by some of the most dramatic geology in Colorado, so a weekend devoted to rocks, minerals, fossils, gemstones, and crystals feels pretty fitting.

The Crystal Festival – A Rock, Mineral, Gem & Crystal Show comes to the Telluride Conference Center in Mountain Village on September 19–20, 2026, bringing together mine owners, geologists, lapidary artists, jewelry designers, collectors, families, and anyone who simply appreciates the natural wonders hiding beneath our feet.

Admission is free, the event is family-friendly, and the show runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Crystal Festival Telluride 2026

The Crystal Festival offers two full days of shopping, education, and exploration, with vendors showcasing geological treasures from around the world.

Visitors can expect to find:

  • Fine minerals and crystal specimens

  • Fossils

  • Gemstones

  • Cabochons

  • Handcrafted jewelry

  • Crystal décor

  • Geological oddities

  • Natural art pieces

  • Collectible and museum-quality specimens

The event also brings together people who know these materials well, including geologists, mine owners, lapidary artists, and jewelry designers.

So whether you’re a longtime collector who knows exactly what you’re looking for or someone whose rock expertise ends somewhere around “ooh, that one is pretty,” there should be plenty to explore.

A Geology Adventure for Kids

One of the highlights for families is the Kids Geology Walk: Scavenger Hunt Adventure.

Young rockhounds can explore the festival while collecting more than a dozen real rocks, minerals, and fossils to take home.

It’s designed to make geology hands-on and fun while introducing kids to Earth science in a way that feels more like a treasure hunt than a lesson.

And given Telluride’s own mining and geological history, it’s a particularly fitting place to spark a little curiosity about what lies beneath the mountains surrounding us.

Rocks, Minerals & Telluride’s Mining History

Part of what makes this event so appropriate for Telluride is that geology is deeply woven into the story of the region.

Long before Telluride became an internationally known ski and resort destination, the surrounding San Juan Mountains drew prospectors and miners in search of gold, silver, and other valuable minerals.

That mining era shaped the town’s architecture, roadways, economy, culture, and many of the communities scattered throughout Southwest Colorado.

Today, the mines may no longer dominate daily life, but the geology that created them is still everywhere—from the dramatic peaks and cliffs surrounding Telluride to the colorful rock formations encountered along mountain roads and trails.

A festival devoted to minerals and geology offers another way to appreciate the landscape beyond simply looking at it.

Spend the Weekend in Mountain Village

With the Crystal Festival taking place at the Telluride Conference Center, it’s also a good excuse to spend some time exploring Mountain Village.

Visitors can ride the gondola between Mountain Village and the Town of Telluride, wander through the plazas, grab lunch or dinner, and take in the early signs of fall across the surrounding mountainsides.

September is one of those especially good times to be here: cooler mornings, fewer midsummer crowds, changing aspens, and still plenty happening throughout the region.

It’s the kind of weekend that captures why people are drawn to Telluride in the first place—not simply for a particular event or season, but for the combination of landscape, community, culture, and access to the outdoors.
