Every Memorial Day weekend, Mountainfilm fills Telluride with filmmakers, adventurers and audiences from around the world. In November, it brings some of those films back home. Mountainfilm for Locals is a free screening for the Telluride community, presented with the Wilkinson Public Library. If you're in town this off-season, or thinking about owning in Telluride, it's one of the best evenings of the year.
What: Mountainfilm for Locals, a 90-minute program of short films from the 2026 Mountainfilm Festival
When: Monday, November 2, 2026. Doors and pizza at 5 p.m., films at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Wilkinson Public Library, 100 W. Pacific Ave., Telluride
The lineup includes two standouts from this year's festival:
The Grandfather Puzzle: The 2026 Best Documentary Short winner, directed by Ora DeKornfeld (25 minutes). A granddaughter travels to photograph the Hungarian castle where her puzzle-loving grandfather grew up, then turns it into a jigsaw puzzle. Mountainfilm calls it a darkly comedic look at identity, belonging and memory.

Film still: The Grandfather Puzzle
Evening in Chile: A four-minute highlight reel directed by Colorado freeskier Bobby Brown. He and his crew head to Chile in August for five days of storm skiing between Valle Nevado and La Parva.

Film still: Evening in Chile
Mountainfilm has been part of Telluride since 1979, and it's one of North America's longest-running documentary film festivals. In late May, every theater and sidewalk is full. In November, a free screening in the library's program room is the main event. That's the version of Telluride many owners come to love most: the same culture and the same community, just quieter.
For an owner, Mountainfilm can bookend the year: a full festival weekend in May, with family gathered at the house between screenings and morning coffee talks, and a quiet November evening at the library to catch the films you missed. The Wilkinson Public Library sits a block off Colorado Avenue, so a home in the historic town turns nights like this into a short walk with pizza at the end. Over two decades in Telluride and Southwest Colorado, and as a CLHMS and REALM Global Exclusive Member, I've found that the buyers who love it here most are the ones who see these small evenings, not just the big weekends.

Yes. The November 2 screening is free, and so is the pizza. Pizza is first come, first served, so Mountainfilm suggests you come hungry and come early.
Yes. Mountainfilm is hosting a free Mountainfilm for Locals in Norwood on Thursday, November 19, at Lone Cone Library, 1455 Pinion St. The 78-minute program of 2026 festival shorts opens with doors and pizza at 5:30 p.m., and films start at 6 p.m.
Mountainfilm's mission is to use film, art and ideas to inspire a better world. On a Monday night in November, that happens in the library with free pizza and a room full of neighbors. It's a small event that says a lot about why people choose to own here.
