Some of the best adventures start right outside the front door, and others go halfway around the world. On Tuesday, November 17, the Telluride Mountain Club brings both kinds to one room with Roots to Routes, a new community storytelling night at Jagged Edge Mountain Gear. If you own a home in Telluride, or you're considering Telluride real estate, it's a good look at what this Colorado town values.
What: Roots to Routes: A Community Storytelling Night, hosted by the Telluride Mountain Club
When: Tuesday, November 17, at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Jagged Edge Mountain Gear, 223 E Colorado Ave, Telluride (the event sponsor)
Format: Each storyteller gets 10 minutes to present with slides, followed by 3 minutes for Q&A.
Cost and RSVP: Find the latest details on the Telluride Mountain Club events page.
The club called for a real mix of adventures, including climbing, mountaineering, rafting, skiing, bikepacking, hiking and more. It wanted personal accounts of what went well, what went wrong and what surprised people along the way, not trip reports. Storyteller submissions closed October 19, so this one is for listening.
People come to Telluride for the mountains. Many decide to own here because of the community that forms around them. A night like Roots to Routes shows that clearly. These are local climbers, skiers, rafters and hikers telling stories of big expeditions and of memorable weekends close to home, in a gear shop on Colorado Avenue. Nights like this tend to become traditions: dinner on Colorado Avenue with the whole family, an hour of stories, and next summer's adventure planned on the walk home.
For second-home owners, mid-November is a rewarding time to be in town. The gondola is closed for maintenance until November 20 and Telluride Ski Resort is targeting a November 26 opening. That leaves a quiet stretch when local evenings like this one are the main event. Buyers who only visit at peak season rarely see it. (Jagged Edge also happens to be right across the street from our office, so stop in and say hello on your way.)

If your weekends look like the stories at Roots to Routes, plan for it in the home itself. A mudroom or ski locker, a garage for bikes and boats, and an easy walk to a trailhead or the gondola often matter more here than an extra guest room. In the historic town, garage space is harder to find, so it's worth prioritizing early in your search.
With over two decades in Telluride and Southwest Colorado, and as a CLHMS and REALM Global Exclusive Member, I help buyers match a property to how they'll actually use it, in every season.
For many buyers, that's the reason to own here. Telluride sits in Colorado's San Juan Mountains, with skiing in winter and hiking, climbing, biking and rafting in the warmer months. A local outdoor community shows up at events like Roots to Routes, too.
The Telluride Mountain Club is a nonprofit that has worked to maintain, preserve and enhance Telluride's outdoor recreation since 1986. It began as an avalanche-education organization and now advocates for safe, accessible, human-powered recreation, from trail work and climbing access to the via ferrata and backcountry avalanche safety.

The adventures that make Telluride special aren't only on the mountain. They're also in the people who share them on a Tuesday night in November. Whether you're browsing Telluride homes for sale or already own here, Roots to Routes is a good reminder of the community you're buying into.
